CLOSED FOR THE SEASON !

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OUR LOVELY CUSTOMERS FOR YOUR SUPPORT THIS SEASON. THE WEATHER WAS DIFFICULT THIS YEAR.. FROSTS IN APRIL THAT DESTROYED STRAWBERRY AND CHERRY BLOSSOM, A COLD MAY DELAYED STRAWBERRY RIPENING, STRONG WINDS BURNT THE RASPBERRY LEAVES AND THEN THE RAINS FOLLOWED BY A HEAT WAVE!

DESPITE IT ALL YOU CAME AND WE HAD A LOVELY TIME. THE SHOP WAS  GREAT SUCCESS WITH CAKES FROM ESME AND BREAD FROM JENNINGS AND A MASSIVE RANGE OF CHEESES, TO LIST JUST A FEW. ITS BEEN A FACINATING ADVENTURE INTO THE WORLD OF RETAIL WHICH WE ENJOYED IMMENSLEY.

NOW TO PREPARE FOR PUMPINS IN OCTOBER AND CHRISTMAS TREES IN ...WELL YOU KNOW WHEN!!

HAVE A GREAT REST OF THE SUMMER AND LETS HOPE THE WEATHER IS KIND.

CHERRIES

late June

We grow as many as eight varieties of strawberry so we can extend the season. Using polytunnels are fantastic for helping the strawberries come a little earlier and protecting the fruit. A lovely place to be picking on a wet day. All the "indoor" strawberries are up on table tops, so no more bending to pick, its very popular with all ages and abilities.

SOME FACTS ABOUT STRAWBERRIES

Strawberry nutrition.

Strawberries can be classed as a superfood due to their nutrient content and delicious taste. Just one serving, a cupful, will provide you with a high amount of vitamin C (149% of your daily recommendation for 2000 calories a day diet) which will help to support your immune system, will help your body to absorb iron and will help your body to stay healthy and fight damaging free radicals.

A Cupful of Strawberries also contains 3% of your daily recommendation for iron, 2% of calcium, and 12% of fibre. Studies have also shown they can be eaten to help reduce high blood pressure because they contain a good level of potassium.
